Massively parallel artificial intelligence is a new research field enabled by the emergence of powerful multiprocessor computers. The enormous computing power and large memory space of these parallel computers opened a new horizon for artificial intelligence researchers. This has led to exciting new results ranging from new versions of standard AI tools and techniques to novel approaches to traditional areas such as natural language processing and vision. In addition, areas such as genetic algorithms and artificial life have flourished under the aegis of this new computing technology. The goal of this book is to introduce the reader to the wide panoply of new AI research growing out of this new technology.
