Robert Wilensky

This paper is concerned with the problems of planning and understanding. These problems are related because a natural language understander must apply knowledge about people’s goals and plans in order to make the inference necessary to explain the behavior of a character in a story. Thus while a story understander is not a planner, it must embody a theory of planning knowledge.
